US Stocks Waver As Earnings, Data Fail To Provide Clear Sign

U.S. stocks drifted between positive and negative territory Tuesday as investors struggled to find clear signals in a mixed bag of corporate earnings and economic data. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 22 points, or 0.2%, to 11142. Leading the Dow lower, DuPont slipped 2.1%. The chemical company’s third-quarter profit fell 10% on lower pharmaceuticals income due to patent expirations, while overall revenue and volume both improved.
